  • Traditionally your computers storage setup has been the slowest point of a system.  Things are sure to change once SSD’s (Solid State Disks) become more mainstream, but their price is still an entry barrier to many people.   Western Digital has released the newest generation in their Raptor line of enthusiast hard drives entitled the VelociRaptor.  This new drive represents a new direction for these hard drives, SATAII 3.0Gbps support, more capacity, increased performance across the board, and shrinking from a 3.5″ drive to a 2.5″ drive.  The form factor of the drive is still 3.5″ though, due to the aluminum heatsink it is mounted in.  The drive is also still spinning at 10,00RPM which is more than fast enough for most purposes.  This new raptor comes in 2 capacity flavors: 300GB (WD3000GLFS) and 150GB (WD1500BLFS).  Todays review will take a look at two of the 300GB drives in Raid 0.

Western Digital is (as I’m sure almost all of you know) a long time player in the consumer and commercial storage segment.  They produce hard drives that taget everyone from budget users, to enthusiasts, to system administrators.   Their raptor hard drives come with a 5 year manufacturer warranty, one the of best in the industry.
